What To Expect

Pattaya Elephant Sanctuary
On the morning of your visit, you will be picked up from your accommodation in Bangkok and will drive for approximately 20 minutes through scenic agricultural areas before arriving at the sanctuary in Pattaya. There, you will be met by your English-speaking guide and learn a little about the elephants, before changing into traditional Karen clothing. You will walk with your guide through the sanctuary, where you will find free-roaming elephants and hear their individual stories. Most of the elephants are rescued show or riding elephants, but they are now safe and well cared for at this no-riding sanctuary. Finally, you will be able to enjoy some freshly cooked Pad Thai, delicious snacks and seasonal fresh fruit. Then enjoy the impressive rural scenery as you drive back to the hotel.

I Like that they are ethical and no riding allowed, would recommend going. Fun to take bath with them
Highlight of our Trip!

This was hands down the highlight of our trip! Transportation from our hotel was safe, clean, and comfortable. Once we showed up, the Sanctuary staff was incredible. We got to feed the three elephants some bamboo and bananas. Then we went for a short, easy hike through the jungle. Walking along with the elephants (and dogs) was a blast. Our guide gave us a lot of information about the elephants and the sanctuary and answered all of our many questions. The elephants ate and interacted with us along the way. Then we finally got to the area where we got to bathe the elephants and what an experience that was! We really got to see the elephants' personalities shine while they played with us in the water. We got to splash, pet, and play with them for a LONG time (I honestly wasn't paying attention to the time, but it didn't feel rushed at any point). Once things started winding down, we headed back to the meeting area of the sanctuary for some lunch which was ready when we got there. Then we changed and headed back to Bangkok in the same van that brought us.

Some things to know:
1. Be ready for water, dirt, and bugs. You'll be interacting with elephants in the jungle (hence the name) so be sure to come prepared. They will remind you before pickup, but you'll want to bring a change of clothes, a towel, and proper footwear. You'll also probably want to bring sunblock and bugspray.
2. Our van driver stopped for a bathroom and breakfast break on the way down and a bathroom break on our way back. It is a long drive, though.
3. We hit Bangkok traffic on our way back (we picked the earlier timeslot) so be mentally prepared for that.
4. I'd recommend bringing cash. They have a small giftshop which we took advantage of. But we wanted to make an additional donation to the sanctuary and they were unable to accept credit cards or Venmo.

Overall, we would LOVE to come back here. The staff cares deeply about the wellbeing of the elephants. They rescued them from tough situations and have no intentions of letting them suffer again. This is a very ethical option to spend time with some elephants and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who is interested.

This was hands down one of the best experiences I’ve had in my life. We were picked up from our hotel and taken back. Our driver was on time and alerted us when he had arrived.
Our guides (Tak) were wonderful and provided background on each elephant that lived in the sanctuary that were rescued from abuse and horrible conditions.
We fed the elephants and walked through their home to observe their daily life. My husband got the opportunity to help bathe and swim with the younger elephant, Frank.
Come hungry because you will be well fed. Trust me on that. And make sure your phone is charged because the video and photo opportunities are endless. Please leave a donation or buy something before leaving. It helps them keep things going and to save other elephants.
Once in a lifetime experience

This sanctuary was amazing! Our tour guide Mr. T was excellent and made sure we had a great experience. Everyone we met at the sanctuary was so nice to be around. They are very experienced and make sure you are completely comfortable. We met the three elephants that you can tell are very well taken care of and happy. We were able to feed them and also play with them in the pool. The lunch they fed us was also amazing and it was overall a wonderful experience from start to finish. This is a once in a lifetime experience that is a must do while in Bangkok!
Must do experience whilst in Thailand
