Overview

Travel with a local Karen hill tribe guide, to visit authentic hill tribe villages of Chiang Rai. He will take you to meet his family in his village. They will share with you the Karen way of life. Activities may include; cooking traditional lunch together, short trek, learn about how the Karen farm and live with nature, how they weave cotton. As you are travelling with a local Karen guide, he'll open up cultural doors for you to learn about hill tribe culture and way of life, in a non-intrusive and responsible way.

He'll also take you to visit other authentic hill tribe village, such as Akha, Yao and Shan villages. We can also combine this with the tourist highlights of Chiang Rai (Golden Triangle) upon request.

What To Expect

Pick up from hotel in Chiang Rai at 9am, and we'll head to authentic Karen hill tribe villages (approx 1.5hrs drive away). Enjoy the scenery as we drive through the lush countryside of Chiang Rai. Your Karen hill tribe guide will take you to meet his family in his village. Enjoy a traditional Karen lunch together (opportunity to learn and help to cook lunch). Option for short trek through forest and farmland where you can learn about how the Karen live with nature.

We visit in a non-intrusive way and do not fix the time, so we will follow the natural rhythms of village life. We can customize the tour based on your preference and schedule. For example, if you're interested in; trekking, photography, handicrafts, nature (just let us know). You'll also have the chance to spend time with your guide's friends and family in the village, to learn all about fascinating Karen culture and way of life.
